Robo-pong, a ball feeding machine for table tennis players was introduced for the first time in Orissa by Bhubaneswar Table Tennis Association (BTTA) at Kalinga Stadium today. The unveiling of the gadget coincied with beginning of the district body`s annual summer coaching camp.
The machine, costing Rs 60,000, functions as a practice partner, feeding balls with different speed, spin, frequency and scillation.
``The machine also helps a coach to get better view of the player’s performance and rectify the mistakes quickly,’’ pointed M Ravana, one of the two coaches supervising the camp.
The three-week-long camp has attracted about 75 paddlers, mostly school children. Players below 12 years have been exempted from participation fee.
Ravana, fellow coach B S Rao and some senior players are providing tips to the paddlers in three sessions daily.
