  Five from Orissa in Junior World Cup hockey squad

Five players from Orissa were today named in the 18-member Indian squad for the Junior World Cup Hockey Tournament to be co-hosted by Singapore and Malaysia from June 7 to 21. The five tribal players include fullbacks Innocent Kullu and Manjeet Kullu: mid-fielders Birendra Lakra, Amardeep Ekka and Vivek, Belsajar Horo. Defender Diwakar Ram will lead the squad, which was selected by the ad hoc committee, managing the administrative affairs of the sport in the country. India will open its campaign against Singapore on 8 June. India is placed in Pool D that also comprises Holland, New Zealand, Poland and Singapore. India’s other matches will be on 8 June (vs Singapore), 9 June (vs New Zealand), 11 June (vs Holland) and 12 June (vs Poland). The team departs for Singapore on 2 June and plays two practice matches, against Chile and Germany, on 4 and 5 June. This is the ninth edition of the Junior World Cup in which a record 20 teams have been drawn in four pools. Matches will be held at Seng Kang Sports and Recreation Centre, Singapore, and Taman Daya Stadium, Johor Bahru, Malaysia. THE SQUAD: Goalkeepers: Mrinal Choubey and Harjit Singh. Full backs: Diwakar Ram (captain), Innocent Kullu and Manjeet Kullu. Midfielders: Birendra Lakra, Amardeep Ekka, Vikas Sharma, Vivek, Belsajar Horo and Vikas Pillay. Forwards: Mandeep Antil, Jay Karan, Danish Mujtaba, Pramod Kumar, Mohammed Amir Khan, Victo Singh and Dharamvir Singh. Standbys: C Santosh Kumar (goalkeeper), Sunil Yadav, Mohammed Asif Khan, Lalit Upadhyay and Yuvraj Walmiki.
