22 Jun 2009

Meena Madhuri Toppo, a tribal girl from Sundargarh district, has made India proud by helping the country win a medal for the first time in the Rowing World Cup II, which concluded at Munich (Germany) today. In the light weight women’s quadruple sculls event, Indian girls Meena Madhuri Toppo, Thara Kurian (Kerala), Tababi Devi and Chaoba Devi (both Manipur) claimed a bronze medal with a timing of 7:13.15. Orissa Association for Rowing & Sculling today lauded Toppo’s medal winning feat and announced to felicitate the tribal rower from Lulukiri village of Sundargarh district on her return home later this month.
