27 Jun 2009

Cupid caught up with Orissa sports as two lifters and two crickets geared up to get into wedlock. Woman powerlifting ace Ranu Mohanty today announced that she would be tying the nuptial knot with national level weightlifter Manoranjan Mishra (Gagu) on November 22. The duo, who were know to each other for over seven years, got engaged at Berhampur, Ranu’s native place, earlier this month. Members of both the families were present on the occasion. Speaking to orisports.com, World bronze and Asian gold medalist Ranu lamented that she had to delay her marriage in search of employment. ``I was in search of a job before settling down in life. But despite achieving international success, I could not get one till date,’’ she said. Also a National weightlifting medal winner, Ranu, however, announced that she would continue her career in competitive lifting. ``There is no restriction from the other side and I also have the potential to do well in competitive lifting,’’ she added. Mishra, who hails from Dhenkanal, achieved his best success by winning a title in the State weightlifting championship last year. A businessman, he is also studying law.

Meanwhile, state junior cricket selector Khirod Behera is all set to wed his fiancée and state woman cricketer Sudhansubala Sahoo on June 29. The couple’s reception party on July 3 is expected to draw a large crowd of sportspersons and officials.
