  Setbacks follow fine start at U-11 Chess Nationals

Most of the 13 Orissa players, barring boys’ second seed Sidhant Mohapatra, suffered setbacks in the second and third rounds of the 23rd National Under-11 Chess Championship at Shivamogga in Karnataka today. Girls’ top seed Sunyasakta Satpathy (2) lost to Karnataka’s Andria L D’Souza in the third round to slip to the joint third place. But international medallist Sidhant Mohapatra (3) registered two wins in the day to share the lead with 12 others. Orissa results: Girls (Round 2): Sunyasakta Satpathy (2) bt A Ajitha (Pud), Adyasha Pattnaik (1.5) drew with V Varsini (TN), Smaraki Mohanty (2) bt P Varsini (TN), Akankhya Kabi (1) bt Prerana S Bharadwaj (Kar), Sribrinda Rout (2) bt Shubhani Kapoor (Raj), Pooja Snapati (1.5) drew with CH Meghna (Ker), Subhashree Priyadarshini (0.5) lost to S Priyanka (AP). Round 3: S Satpathy (2) lost to Andria L D’Souza (Kar), A Patnaik (2.5) bt Pooja Senapati (Ori), S Mohanty (2) lost to R Sree Dharani (TN), A Kabi (2) bt Nishi Mahalaxmi Iyer (WB), S Rout (2) lost to Shoumi Mukerjee (WB), Pooja Snapati (1.5) lost to Adyasha Pattnaik (Ori), S Priyadarshini (0.5) lost to Tanuja Bharati (Bhr). Boys (Round 2): Sidhant Mohapatra (2) bt Chinmay Routray (Ori), Soumen Amlan (1.5) bt R Akash (TN), Rakesh Kumar Jena (2) bt Sarthak Bansal (Del), Chinmay Routray (1) lost to Sidhant Mohapatra (Ori), Bhaskar Sri Viswaroopanand (1) lost to Kushagra Sharma (Raj), Mohit Sahoo (0.5) drew with Abinash Dutta (Asm). Round 3: S Mohapatra (3) bt Maniar Tirth (Guj), S Amlan (2.5) bt Nachiket Dhonnar (Mah), RK Jena (2) lost to Debankan Dhara (WB), C Routray (2) bt P Elancheralathan (TN), BS Viswaroopanand (2) bt T Selvabharathi (TN), M Sahoo (1.5) bt Akash K Shetty (Kar).
