  Delhi Hurricanes lift Callaghan Cup

Delhi Hurricanes lifted the Callaghan Cup, the symbol of supremacy of the All-India Division-II Rugby Tournament with a thumping 27-5 win over Kolkata Police in the final at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. Delhi captain Kwan Gill starred in the victory with two tries. He was adjudged the Most Valuabal Player of the Tournament. Pradeep Best, Kamaldeep Dagar and Yashpal Dhaya contributed one try each for the winners, who led 22-5 at the half-time. Dawa Bhutia executed the only try for runners-up Kolkata Police. Tamil Nadu Police crushed Jungle Crows (Kolkata) 31-7 to finish third among nine teams in the fray. Kolkata Sergents occupied the sixth position, thrashing Young Rugby Club, also from Kolkata, 22-12 in the losers’ plate final. State Cooperative Bank president Jajneswar gave away the trophy at the closing ceremony. The top three finishers qualified for the ensuing Division-I tournament. Finals standings: 1. Delhi Hurricanes, 2. Kolkata Police, 3. Tamil Nadu Police, 4. Jungle Crows, 5. Orissa, 6. Kolkata Sergents, 7. Young Rugby Club 8. Chennai Irish, 9. Pune.
