  5 chess players to get 6.1 lakh Central cash awards

Five chess players from Orissa have been issued cheques worth Rs 6.10 lakhs by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India as special cash awards for the year 2008. The All India Chess Federation (AICF) website says that a total of 73 chess players from different states are set to receive the Central cash incentives for fetching international medals and titles in the calendar year. Women International Master Padmini Rout is all set to be Orissa’s highest gainer with total of Rs 2.9 lakhs. Debasish Das, the third and latest International Master of the state, follows Padmini with a total gain of Rs 1.6 lakhs. Kiran Manisha Mohanty, the other WIM of the state has been sanctioned Rs 1 lakh. Sunyasakta Satapathy and Sidhant Mohapatra are the lowest of the five beneficiaries with Rs 30,000 each. ORISSA AWARDEES: 1. Padmini Rout: Rs 1 lakh each for becoming WIM and winning gold in the World Youth (u-14 girls) Championship at Vung Tan, Vietnam (Oct 19 to 31): Rs 50,000 for bagging gold in the Asian Youth (u-14 girls) Championship at Teheran (July 15 to 22) and Rs 40,000 for taking silver in the Commonwealth (u-14 girls) Championship at Nagpur (Sept 28 to Oct 6). 2. Debasish Das: Rs 1 lakh for gold medal in World Youth Championship in Vietnam and Rs 60,000 for bronze in the Asian Youth (u-18) Championship at Teheran. 3. Kiran Manisha Mohanty: Rs 1 lakh for gold medal in Commonwealth (u-18) Championship at Nagpur. 4. Sunyasakta Satapathy: Rs 30,000 for bronze medal in Commonwealth (u-10) Championship at Nagpur. 5. Sidhant Mohapatra: Rs 30,000 for bronze medal in Asian Youth (u-10) Championship at Teheran.
