13 Jun 2010 BHUBANESWAR

Host Orissa-A and Jharkhand were declared joint winners of the 2nd Basanta Biswal Memorial All-India Cricket Tournament after the two-day final match between the two sides was abandoned due to rain at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Jharkhand were struggling at 16 for three in 8.2 overs when rain forced the abandonment of the first day`s play. Rain continued to play spoil sport, denying any action on the second and final day. Eventually the match ended in a draw. However, during the brief period when play was possible, Orissa seamers Alok Sahu and Basanta Mohanty showed their prowess, bagging two wickets for nine runs and one wicket for six runs respectively.

As the joint winners, both the teams received Rs 50,000 each as cash prize. Host Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Asirbad Behera graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest and handed the glittering trophy at the OCA Conference Hall, Barabati Stadium. According to his suggestion, Jharkhand would keep the trophy for the first six months.
