  Unit-9 High School, ITER College win KDBA titles

Unit-9 Government High School retained the inter-school title, while Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) emerged new inter-college champions in the Snehashish-Akram Basketball Tournament, which concluded at Unit-1 indoor hall complex in Bhubaneswar today.

In the finals, Unit-9 High School beat Mother’s Public School 57-20, while ITER got the better of Krupajal Engineering College 39-25. Higher Education Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and handed over the trophies.

The five-day tournament was organized by Khurda District Basketball Association. Before the start of the tournament, KDBA conducted a week-long coaching camp for the participating teams.
 

HISTORY OF TOURNAMENT:

*     The tournament was instituted in the year 1999.
*     In the year 2009, the tournament was christined as Akram-Snehasis Memorial Inter-School and Inter-College Basketball Tournament.
*     The tournament was dedicated to promising basketball players Akram Arshad Ahmed and Snehasish Das, who died in a road accident on October 8, 2008.
*     This year`s tournament would be preceded by a coaching camp at the same venue from October 11 to 25.
*     Thirteen schools and 12 colleges participated in the fifth edition (2009).
*     Last year, Unit-IX Government Boys High School and Chilka Rani School, Balugaon finished champion and runners-up respectively among schools, while Government College of Physical Education and ITER ended up as champion and runners-up among colleges.

SCHOOLS: Unit-9 Boys High School, Ruchika High School, BJEM School, ODM Public School, Chandrasekharpur DAV Public School, Unit-8 DAV Public School, SAI International School, Saheed Nagar High School, Mother’s Public School, Unit-1 Boys High School, Delhi Public School.

COLLEGES: KIIT, BJB College, Biju Patnaik College, ITER, GITA, NMIT, Krupajal Engineering College, Xavier Institute of Management & Business (XIMB), College of Engineering Bhubaneswar (CEB), SILICON, GEC, IIT.
