  Commonwealth Express generates good response in Bhubaneswar

Commonwealth Express, the exhibition train now on its nation-wide journey, received good response during its two-day halt at Mancheswar Station in Bhubaneswar on August 7 and 8. Arour 10,000 people, mostly school students visited the train on both the days.

The fully air-conditioned train, comprising 11 coaches, was flagged off from Delhi on July 24 last with an aim to create awareness about the XIX Commonwealth Games, which is set to begin at Delhi on October 3 and evolution of information technology in India.

 

Out of 11 coaches, five were dedicated to sports, especially Commonwealth Games and the other six to the evolution of information technology in India. One of the coaches was designed as an auditorium with internet, video conferencing and mobile communication facilities.

The first of the sports-related coaches depicted the history of Commonwealth Games along with details of the ensuing edition’s mascot ‘Shera’, Queens Baton Relay, Green Games Concept and the route of the baton. The second coach had been designed to give a general acquaintance with the massive changeover of Delhi in order to host this world class event with the display of dummy models of various stadiums.

 

Details of various disciplines, venues and competition dates were displayed in coach No 3, while the fourth one had been decorated with photographs of sports heroes of the country. The last of of the five coaches exhibited the contribution of Railways for development of sports and that of the outstanding railway sportspersons, including Arjuna, Khel Ratna, Dronacharya, Padmashree and Dhyanchand awardees.
