  Railway footballers win FAO 1st Division League title

East Coast Railway pipped Rising Students 7-6, via tie-breaker in the floodlit final to winthe FAO First Division Football League title,  at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today. Penalty shoot-out was applied after play in the regulation time ended in 2-2 draw.

The railway side took the lead twice through Gyana Ranjan Samal (3rd) and Maheswar Das (53rd). But Rising Students fought back on both the occasions to draw level through Subeer Majhi (16th) and Shyam Tudu (63rd).

In the tie-breaker, Railway scored five times (Maheswar Das, Salkhan Soren, Sk Momin, Sk Mokim, Laxman Murmu) against four (Subeer Majhi, I S Bodra, Subasis Naik, Bibhuti Mirdha) by Rising Students.

 

Cuttack Collector Kishore Mohanty, Mayor Soumendra Ghosh, Orissa Football Association president Debasish Samantaray and Orissa Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera gave away the trophies at the closing function.

Santosh Das, Salkhan Soren (both Railway), Kedar Soni and Ramachandra Murmu (both Rising Students) were adjudged as best goalkeeper, best mid-fielder, best defender and best forward respectively. Twenty veteran footballers of Cuttack were felicitated on the occasion.
