24 Jun 2011 BHUBANESWAR

A 10-member boys team from Bhubaneswar-based tribal school, Kalinga
Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), emerged champions in the Touraid Under-13 International Rugby Festival, which concluded in Manchester, UK yesterday. Led by Dharmananda Bhoi, the KISS team beat Phuket Lomas Club of Thailand in the final 5-0.

KISS boys started their campaign on a flying note, trouncing an England team 7-0. They next beat another English team 7-1 to enter the semifinals, where the KISS boys prevailed over Nederburg Primary School, Cape Town (South Africa) 3-0.

Teams from six countries took part in the annual 10-a-side rugby tournament, which was hosted by Touraid, a charity organisation, working for the benefit of underprivileged children.

``We won because of our excellent all-round performance and hard work of each and every member of the team,`` said captain Bhoi from Manchester.

Earlier in 2007, another KISS team created sensation by winning a similar tournament for under-14 boys in London. KISS founder Dr A Samanta expressed satisfaction over the achievement of the school team and described the feat as a pride for tribal community and the state of Orissa.
