  Smaraki is State woman chess champion

Asian school champion Smaraki Mohanty of Kendrapara won the title in the Orissa State Women`s Chess Championship, which concluded at Janakalyan High School, Chandikhole (Jajpur) today. She scored 4.5 points from five rounds, posting four wins and drawing remaining one.

Cuttack trio Adyasha Patnaik, Sovna Sonali Jena and Akankshya Nayak finished second, third and fourth respectively with four points each. The top four finishers qualified to represent Orissa in the National Women Challengers Championship, scheduled to be held at Chennai from July 2 to 10.

Altogether 24 players from seven districts participated in the two-day-long state championship, which was hosted jointly by Mahavinayak Chess Academy and United Jajpur Chess Association on behalf of All Orissa Chess Association.

 

Final standings (Top 10): 1. Smaraki Mohanty (4.5); 2-4. Adyasha Patnaik, Sovna Sonali Jena Akankshya Nayak (4 each); 5-6. Krushna Mishra, Payal Priti Chhanda (3.5 each); 7-10. Tanuja Sahu, Sulagna Sarangi, Gitanjali Das Chol, Shreejita Khuntia (3 each).
