  Chintan, Raundi fastest swimmers in 52nd State championship

Chintan Naik and Raundi Tudu (both Bhubaneswar) emerged fastest swimmers, winning the men`s and women`s 50 metre freestyle event respectively in the 52nd State Championship, which concluded here at Biju Patnaik Swimming Complex in Kalinga Stadium today.

Chintan clocked 26.18 seconds to receive the Dr Harekrushna Mahatab Memorial Trophy, while Raundi finished with a timing of 34.40 seconds to claim the Biju Patnaik Memorial Trophy. Individual titles in different categories were grabbed by swimmers of Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur. Sambalpur won the men`s team title with 253 points, while Bhubaneswar finished runners-up with 190 points.

Sports Minister Badri Narayan Patra and Orissa Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera handed over the trophies at the closing function. Orissa Swimming Association president Durga Shankar Patnaik and secretary Pitambar Jena were present on the occasion.

 

Title winners of the two-day state championship became eligible to represent Orissa in the Sub-junior National at Indore (June 25 to 28), Junior Nationals at Bhopal (August) and Senior Nationals at Ranchi (October).

Individual champions: Senior women: Niharika Patel (Sambalpur). Senior men: Chintan Naik. Junior girls: Niharika Patel and Raundi Tudu. Junior boys: Aditya Biswal (Sambalpur). Sub-junior girls: Pratyasha Ray (Bhubaneswar). Sub-junior boys: Omkar Das and Soumyadeep Saha.
