BN Mohanty and R Viswanath of Kalinga Club (Bhubaneswar) won the 50-plus veteran doubles title in the All Odisha Similipal Open Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Baripada today. But the duo’s bid to clinch a double proved in vain as it lost the 40-plus veteran doubles final to local favourites Rabindra Mandal Rajiv Sahoo (Baripada Club).
Local MLA Ramachandra Hansdah handed over the trophies in the presence of tournament director Anup Kumar Nayak. Organised by Mayurbhanj Lawn Tennis Association, the two-day tournament was earlier inaugurated by Mayurbhanj Collector Rajesh Prabhakar Patil in the presence of Police DIG Dayal Ganguar and MLTA secretary Bikekananda Patnaik.

RESULTS:
40-pus veteran doubles: Semifinals: BN Mohanty-R Viswanath bt KK Biswal-AK Nayak 8-6; Rabindra Mandal-Rajiv Sahoo bt Gangadhar Lenka-Jiten Mohanty 8-7 (5). Final: R Mandal-R Sahoo bt BN Mohanty-R Viswanath 8-4.
50-plus veteran doubles: Semifinals: Akhila Bihari Das-GR Das bt V Raman-SS Rath 7-2; BN Mohanty-R Viswanath bt PK Bakshi-J Ganta 7-4. Final: BN Mohanty-R Viswanath bt AB Das-GR Das 7-0.
