Set up by Cuttack District Tennis Association (CDTA), the national-standard complex revived the racket sport in city, once the hub of tennis in the state, after a long gap of two decades.

Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahatab, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, Rajya Sabha Member Dilip Tirkey and Shashi Bhusan Behera graced the opening ceremony as guests. Police DG Prakash Mishra, CDTA president Justice Bijay Krushna Patel, working president Rajanikanta Nayak and secretary Satyajit Mohanty were present on the occasion.

The complex, built at a cost of around Rs 50 lakhs, features two rebound ace synthetic courts with floodlights, a 200-seat spectator stand, players` changing rooms and the CDTA office room. Speaking on the occasion the CDTA secretary thanked the MPs for providing financial assistance from their LAD Fund for the construction of the complex.
According to Mohanty, Mahatab contributed Rs 10 lakhs, Behera Rs 5 lakhs and both Panda and Tirkey Rs 4 lakhs each. Odisha Cricket Association too extended financial support for the tennis project. Activities at the complex will start with a coaching-cum-talent-hunt-programme in March. It will be followed by regular coaching and tournaments.
