Odisha`s Woman Fide Master Rutumbara Bidhar claimed the bronze medal in the girls category of the 27th National Under-13 Chess Championship, which concluded at Puducherry today. In the 11-round championship, Bhubaneswar lass Rutumbara won six games, drew four and lost one to finish third with eight points. Akanksha Hagawane of Maharashtra and R Vaishali of Tamil Nadu emerged champion and runner-up, garnering 9.5 and 8.5 points respectively.

This was the third National medal for Rutumbara, who has come under the tutelage of International Master Swayangsu Satyapragyan. A seventh standard student of Delhi Public School, Rutumbara had bagged a silver in National U-19 Championship at Ahmedabad in 2009 and another silver in the National U-11 Championship at New Delhi in 2012.

By securing the bronze in the under-13 Nationals, she has qualified to represent the country in the under-14 World, Asia and Commonwealth championships.
