  KIIT boys, BAA girls win State jr basketball titles

KIIT University and Bhubaneswar Athletic Association (BAA) won the boys` and girls` titles respectively in the 50th Junior State Basketball Championship, which concluded at the SoA University complex here today.

Dominating the final from the word go, KIIT boys defeated Ganjam District Athletic Association 61-42 to clinch the title on their debut in the championship. Subham top scored for KIIT with 17 points, while J Lakra led the scoring for Ganjam with 14 points.

BAA girls retained the crown when they outplayed Cuttack District Athletic Association (CDAA) 37-15 in the summit clash. Urbashi Mallick, who led the Bhubaneswar attack, top scored with 14 points, while Sibani Sahu toiled hard for the losers with 10 points to her credit.

 

Institute of Technical Education & Research (ITER) Director Dr Manas Mallick gave away the prizes in the presence of Odisha Basketball Association secretary Ashok Sahu.

As many as 21 men’s and eight women’s teams have joined the four-day championship, which was declared open by OUAT former vice-chancellor Prof D P Ray in the presence of SOA University managing member Gopabandhu Kar.
