  Govt felicitates sportspersons with cash incentive

Waking up from deep slumber, the State Government today felicitated 129 sportspersons with a total cash award of around Rs 1.10 crore for achieving success in different national and international competitions during the past five years. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presented special awards worth Rs 8 lakhs to 16 outstanding sportspersons in a function here at Jayadev Bhawan.
Among the 16, international woman hurdler Anuradha Biswal received the maximum of Rs 3 lakhs for completing 25 years in competitive athletics. The other 113 sportspersons were presented with a total cash incentive of Rs 2,02,51,000. Chess WGM Padmini Rout was the highest beneficiary, pocketing Rs 7.5 lakhs. As many as 26 sportspersons became richer by Rs 1 lakh or more each.
The long-pending annual cash incentive awards were distributed at time for five years (2007-08 to 2011-12). Surprisingly not a singles hockey player was considered for the cash incentive award. Large number of awardees were absent in the function due to various reasons.
Sports & Youth Services Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, Rajya Sabha Member and former hockey Olympian Dilip Tirkey, Sports Secretary Injeti Srinivas and Sports Director D V Swamy were present in the function.

1.  Anuradha Biswal, Athletics, Rs 3,00,000 (For completing 25 years of competitive career).
2.  Keshab Swain, Green coconut breaker, Rs 75,000 (For entering Guinnesss Book of World Records by  breaking 85 green coconuts in one minute in 2012 and creating records in Limca Book of Records for five times).
3.  Ignace Tirkey, Hockey, Rs 50,000 (For participation in 2012 London Olympics).
4.  Birendra Lakra, Hockey, Rs 50,000 (For participation in 2012 London Olympics).
5.  K Ravi Kumar, Weightlifting, Rs 50,000 (For participation in 2012 London Olympics).
6.  Natraj Behera, Cricket, Rs 25,000 (For leading East Zone to title triumph in Duleep Trophy and winning the BCCI`s Best U-22 Cricketer Award).
7.  Rasanara Parbin, Cricket, Rs 25,000 (For Representing India in ICC Women`s World Cup, 2013).
8.  Madhuri Meheta, Cricket, Rs 25,000 (For representing India in Women`s ODI series against West Indies).
9.  Pankaj Bhue, Cricket, Rs 25,000 (For being part of the Indian team that emerged champions in the T-20 World Cup for Visually Impaired, held at Bangalore in 2012).
10. Jafar Iqbal, Cricket, Rs 25,000 (For being part of the Indian team that emerged champions in the T-20 World Cup for Visually Impaired, held at Bangalore in 2012).
11. Sasmita Malik, Football, Rs 25,000 (For being the part of the India team that emerged champions in the SAFF Women`s Football Championship at Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2012).
12. Alochana Senapati, Football, Rs 25,000 (For being the part of the India team that emerged champions in the SAFF Women`s Football Championship at Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2012).
13. Lochana Munda, Football, Rs 25,000 (For being the part of the India team that emerged champions in the SAFF Women`s Football Championship at Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2012).
14. Supriya Routray, Football, Rs 25,000 (For being the part of the India team that emerged champions in the SAFF Women`s Football Championship at Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2012).
15. Pinky Bompal Magar, Football, Rs 25,000 (For being the part of the India team that emerged champions in the SAFF Women`s Football Championship at Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2012).
