  DLW win CRM All-India Volleyball Tournament

Diesel Locomotive Works (Varanasi) won the 1st Chitta Ranjan Memorial All-India Invitation Volleyball Tournament, defeating Punjab Police by 3-2 sets in the hard-fought final at J N Indoor Stadium here tonight.

The champion team, which won the final 25-22, 25-18, 20-25, 19-25, 15-10, received the top prize of Rs 50,000, while the runners-up side were given Rs -up side were given Rs 30,000. Paradip Port Trust finished third in the three-day tournament, which was jointly organised by Cuttack District Athletic Association and Odisha Volleyball Association. Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority and BSF (West Bengal) were other two teams in the fray.

 

Vinit Kumar (DLW) was adjudged the man of the final match as well as the best attacker of the tournament. Sandeep Singh (Punjab Police), R Karthik (TNSDA) and Hardeep Singh (Punjab Police) took the prizes as man of the tournament, best libero and best upper respectively.

Police DG Prakash Mishra and Odisha Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera handed over the trophy and cash prizes at the closing function. OVA working president Subodh Kumar Routray and secretary Pradip Kumar Mohanty were present on the occasion.

The tournament was a tribute to Odisha volleyball player-turned-coach Chitta Ranjan Rout, who passed away earlier this year. His wife Jyotsnarani Rout was given a cheque of Rs 20,000 at the closing function. Veteran volleyball couple, Prasanna Chandra Patnaik and Dr Shaila Patnaik were felicitated on the occasion.
