Utkal University emerged champions in the Central Zone Inter-University (Women) Kabaddi Tournament, which concluded at Vyasa Vihar in Balasore today. Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (Gwalior), Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj University (Nagpur) and host Fakir Mohan University finished second, third and fourth respectively.

The top four finishers qualified to compete in the All-India Inter-University Tournament. In the league round, Utkal finished at the top of the table, posting wins over LNIPE, FMU and holding RTMU to a draw. LNIPE registered two wins against RTMU and FMU to occupy the second position. In the contest for the third place, RTMU defeated FMU by 30 points.

FMU Vice-chancellor Prof Kumar Bar Das handed over the trophy in the presence of Eastern Range DIG Asit Panigrahi and Emami Paper Mills Director MBS Nayar.
