  Cuttack men, Puri women win state kabaddi titles

Cuttack men and Puri women claimed titles in the 61st Inter-District Kabaddi Championship, which concluded at Sector-20 Indoor Stadium in Rourkela today. In the finals, Cuttack men outplayed Sambalpur 25-13, while Puri women pulverised Jajpur 21-4.

Shekh Ansuddin, Satya Prakash Dash (both Cuttack) and Anil Pradhan (Sambalpur) were adjudged best player, best catcher and best raider respectively. In women`s category, Madhusmita Sahoo, Manaswini Swain and S Swain (all Puri) received prizes as best player, best raider and best catcher respectively.

 

Earlier in men`s semifinals, Cuttack defeated Jajpur 25-10, while Sambalpur got the better of CRRI 22-7. In women`s last-four round, Jajpur thrashed Cuttack 26-7 and Puri prevailed over Khurda 17-6.

State teams, comprising 12 men and as many women were selected for the National championship, scheduled to be held at Kolkata from November 13.

Transport and Commerce Minister Subrat Tarai gave away trophy in presence of hockey Olympian Michael Kindo, host Sports Federation of Rourkela secretary R N Mishra and Odisha Kabaddi Association secretary Ajay Behera.
