  Manipur girls retain Junior Nationall football title

Manipur retained the title in the Girls` Junior National Football Championship, notching up a 3-0 emphatic victory in a repeat final against hosts Odisha at Barabati Stadium here today. Odisha contended themselves as the runners-up for the second year.
Earlier in the semifinals, Manipur blanked Bihar 3-0 at Barabati Stadium, while last year`s runners-up Odisha outplayed Tamil Nadu by identical margin at Reserve Police ground.
Odisha Television Ltd`s founder director Jagi Mangat Panda handed over the trophy at the closing function. Odisha Olympic Association secretary Asirbad Behera, Football Association of Odisha president Debshish Samantray and secretary Sanjay Behera were present on the occasion.
Nagaland duo, Nyitsarho and Rokosenvo Meyase were adjudged the best goal keeper and best defender respectively. The prizes for best mid-fielder, best striker and player of the championship were claimed by Muthuselvi (Tamilnadu), Pyari Xaxa (Odisha) and N Ratanbala Devi respectively.

 

Altogether 28 states joined the championship. Teams were divided into seven clusters and after completion of league matches, the top team from each cluster along with one second best team advanced to the quarterfinals.
Matches were played at three venues, the other two being Satyabrata Stadium and Reserve Police ground. The championship was earlier inaugurated by Rajya Sabha Member Shashi Bhusan Behera in the presence of host Football Association of Odisha secretary Sanjay Behera.

Odisha (Menaka Mallick 4, Kalabati Kachhap 3, Sinulata Sahoo 3, Jabamani Tudu 3, Laxmi Munda 1, Pinky Lakra 1) beat Himachal Pradesh 15-0.
November 22: Odisha (Maneka Mallik 2) drew with Meghalaya (Riblda Rynjah, Morda Khongsit) 2-2.
November 24: Odisha (Maneka Mallik 8, Pyari Xaxa 6, Sinulata Sahoo 2, Hema Xaxa 2, Jabamanai Tudu 2; Anima Mallik 1, Swarna Priya 1) beat Uttarakhand 22-0.
QUARTERFINAL LEAGUE:
November 26:
Manipur (H Sunita Devi beat Odisha lost to 1-0.
November 28: Odisha (Jabamani Tudu, Sinulata Sahoo) beat Nagaland (Ruth Rengma) 2-1.
November 30: Odisha (Pyari Xaxa 5, Sinulata Sahoo 1, Hema Xaxa 1) beat Kerala (T Nikhila) 7-1.
SEMIFINAL:
December 3: Odisha (Damayanti Triya, Pyari Xaxa, Swarnapriya Nayak) beat Tamil Nadu 3-0.
FINAL (Dec 5): Manipur beat Odisha 3-0.( Dangmei Grace 2, N Ratanbala Devi 1).
