  Kolkata Police annex Callaghan Cup

Kolkata Police lifted the Callaghan Cup, the symbol of supremacy in the All-India Senior National (Division-II) Rugby Tournament, defeating Jammu & Kashmir 48-5 in the Cup final here at the East Coast Railway Stadium today. Both the teams, however, were promoted to Division-I.

Tamil Nadu finished third, beating local side, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) 23-12. Bhubaneswar Rugby Football Club won the Plate final, getting the better of CRPF 31-15.

 

Banki MLA Prabhat Tripathy presented the trophies at the closing ceremony. Host Odisha Rugby Football Association president Priyadarshi Mishra and secretary Upendra Kumar Mohanty were present on the occasion.

Altogether 11 teams, including two from Odisha, participated in the tournament. Other teams in the fray were Young Rugby Club, Future Hope (all Kolkata); Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh; Bihar, Jammu & Kashmir, CRPF (Delhi) and Rajasthan.
