  Sunrise Sporting win Biju Memorial Tournament

Local favourite Sunrise Sporting Club of Koida emerged champions, defeating SAI Training Centre, Cuttack 4-1 in the final of the 10th All-India Biju Patnaik Memorial Football Tournament at Ispat Stadium here on today.

Piten Mukhi, custodian of the champion team walked away with the man of the match award, thwarting several scoring attempts of the opposition team. Sunrise Sporting received the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while the runners-up were given Rs 30,000.

Former India football captain IM Vijayan handed over the trophy in presence of Panposh Sub-collector S B Mishra. Vijayan also played in the tournament for Kerala Police. The tournament was organised by Rourkela Sports Association.

February 15 (PQF):
SAI Training Centure, Cuttack (Arjun Nayak 11th, 52nd; Babul Murmu 72th, 90th; Sanatan Lohar 33rd) beat Sail Sports Club, Ranchi (S Alam) 5-1.
February 16 (QF 1): SAI Training Centure, Cuttack (Lakhai Murmu 57th, Sanatan Lohar 80th) beat Satpura Valley Sports Academy, MP 2-0.
February 17 (QF 2): Tata Football Academy (Udanta Singh 52nd, 87th, Seikh Rohit 53rd) beat Yazdani Club-73 (Santosh Nayak 71st) 3-1.
February 18 (SF 1): SAI Training Centure, Cuttack (Arjun Naik 11th) beat Tata Football Academy, Jamshedpur (Udanta Singh 21st) 3-1 in tie-breaker (FT: 1-1).
February 19 (PQF): Indian Football Academy, Kolkata (Sukhen Bag 49th) beat Odisha Police (Prasant Kumar Nayak 22nd) 5-3 in tie-breaker. (FT: 1-1)
February 20 (QF 3): Sunrise Sporting Club, Koira (Drogba, Murphy, Dipak Kachhap) beat Indian Football Academy (Kolkata) 5-0.
February 21 (QF 4): Kerala Police (Jamshed 24th) beat Garulia Athletic Club, Kolkata (Sourav Biswas 60th) 5-3 in tie-breaker (FT: 1-1).
February 22 (SF 2): Sunrise Sporting Club (Bhusan Murmu 32nd, Murphy 67th) beat Kerala Police (Prashant 83th) 2-1.
February 23 (Final): Sunrise Sporting Club (Shyam Bankira 24th, Bhusan Murmu 59th, Murphy 76th, Sankha Marandi 89th) beat SAI Training Centre (Bablu Murmu 83rd) 4-1.
