  Kaimatia Royal Tigers emerge MCPL champions

Kaimatia Royal Tigers emeged champions in the 1st Madhabananda Cricket Premier League, inflicting a 60-run defeat on Biharilal Fighters in the final at Unit-II Girls High School ground here today.

Sanjib Barik starred in the emphatic victory, hitting a 33-ball 55, which was studded with four hits to the fence and three over it. His dashing half-century fetched him the man of the match prize of Rs 2,000.

Batting first, Kaimatia Royal Tigers piled up a healthy total of 164 and then restricted Biharilal Fighters to 104. The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 60,000 and the runner-up team became richer by Rs 40,000.

 

Odisha senior state team players Sumitosh Praharaj (Dhanistha Challengers) and Suryakant Pradhan (Kaimatial RT) pocketed Rs 6,000 and Rs 3,000 as the the man of the tournament and best bowler respectively. The best batsman prize, carrying Rs 3,000, was claimed by Siddhant Jena (Biharilal Fighters).

Former Odisha Ranji cricketer Bikram Mohanty handed over the trophy and cash prizes in the presence of host M M Trust chairman and former Odisha Ranji team captain Pravanjan Mullick and tournament coordinator Khirod Behera.

India-A woman cricketer Sushree Dibyadarshini Pradhan was felicitated at the closing function. In the absence of Pradhan, who is now undergoing a training stint in the Zonal Cricket Academy at Guwahati, her parents received an English willow bat and a trophy on her behalf.

Held in the memory of Pravanjan Mullick’s father, the tournament featured six teams. Teams in the fray were: Biharilal Fighters, Baramunda Fighters, Rameswar Spartans, Nilachal Warriors, Kaimatia Royal Tigers and Dhanistha Challengers. Most of the players current state Ranji, under-22 and under-19 teams participated in the event, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 1.25 lakhs.

May 1 (Match No 1): Baramunda Fighters 115/10 in 19.2 overs
(Abhay Mallick 27, Rajesh Dhupar 24; Arabinda Singh 2/3) lost to Biharilal Fighters 117/2 in 10.5 overs (Roshan Swain 42, Narendra Das 33; Sukant Hati 2/26) by 8 wkts. MoM: Roshan Swain.
May 2 (Match No 2): Rameswar Spartans 76/10 (Priyabrat Pradhan 21; Tukuna Sahu 3/13) lost to Nilachal Warriors 77/2 (Rakesh Pattnaik 29; Samir Mohanty 2/14) by 8 wkts. MoM: Tukuna Sahu.
May 3 (Match No 3): Biharilal Fighters 172/10 (Sidhant Jena 52; S Pradhan 4/47) beat Kaimatia Royal Tigers 123/9 in 20 overs (N Behera 42; Manoj Nayak 4/14) by 1 wkt. MoM: Sidhant Jena and Manoj Nayak.
May 4 (Match No 4): Nilachal Warriors 138/10 in 19.2 overs (Rakesh Pattnaik 37, Preetamjeet Das 24; Sumitosh Praharaj 3/14) lost to Dhanistha Challengers 143/7 in 20 overs (Sumitosh Praharaj 30, Sujit Lenka 27; Manoj Barik 2/20, Preetamjeet Das 2/36) by 3 wkts. MoM: Sumitosh Praharaj.
May 8 (Semifinal-1): Biharilal Fighters 212/6 in 20 overs (Arabinda Singh 59, Biplab Samantray 54, Narendra Das 50, Siddhant Jena 25; B Shiva 2/31, Niranjan Behera Jr 2/36) beat Nilachal Warriors 134/10 in 19.2 overs (Seikh Salam 46; Biplab Samantray 4/14, Manoj Nayak 2/31) by 78 runs.
May 8 (Semifinal-2): Kaimatia Royal Tigers 172/10 in 20 overs
(Subit Biswal 36, Prasant Sahoo 35, Sanjib Barik 33, Niranjan Behera 23; Mohammad Azhar 3/36) beat Dhanistha Challengers 97/10 in 17.2 overs (Mohammad Azhar 27, Sukant Das 27, Sumitosh Praharaj 22; Niranjan Behera 3/15, Deepak Behera 3/29, Suryakant Pradhan 2/16, Prasant Sahoo 2/17) by 75 runs.
