Hockey Gangpur-Odisha win Sub-junior Women National title
25 May 2014 BHUBANESWAR

Hockey Gangpur-Odisha clinched a glorious double by winning the title in the 4th Hockey India Sub-junior Women National Championship (Division B) at Haldwani in Uttarakhand today. Debutants Hockey Gangpur, who bagged the Division B sub-junior men national title earlier this month at Vadodara (Gujarat), added the women crown, defeating Sports Authority of India in the exciting final 2-1.

Earlier in the semifinals, Gangpur girls thrashed Hockey Bhopal 5-1. They reached the semifinals, winning all three of their Pool C matches convincingly. Gangpur beat Bihar 5-0, Goa 3-0 and Puducherry 10-0. Gangpur’s Rinki Kujur won a trophy as the best player of the tournament.

With this triumph, the newly formed Hockey Gangpur-Odisha completed creditable a treble. They had claimed their maiden title in the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship (Division B) at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow earlier in March.

``It is a tremendous achievement that coming to existence only last year (August), Hockey Gangpur-Odihsa has won three National titles so far. It happened only because of the hard work of our coaches and players,’’ said the new state body’s secretary Debasish Gouda.
