Organised by NextGen Sports Trust, in association with Ace Base Tennis Academy and KIIT University, the three-day tournament, featuring 260 entries in five categories, carried a record prize fund of Rs 1.6 lakh.
Bhuyan received Rs 35,000, while Mallick was given Rs 24,000. Winners and runner-up in under-16 boys` singles became richer by Rs 8,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively. Women` singles champion pocketed Rs 4,500.
Odisha Panchayati Raj Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo handed over the trophies and cash prizes at the closing function. NextGen Sports Trust chairman Manas Kumar Jena, organising secretary Bijay Kumar Jena, eminent coach Ajay Nishank and All Odisha Chess Association secretary Vivek Kumar Tibarewal were present on the occasion. Men`s singles: Semifinals: Ansu Kumar Bhuyan bt Asutosh das 6-2, 6-2; Santosh Kumar Mallick bt Avilash Mishra 3-6, 7-6(0), 6-1. Final: AK Bhuyan bt SK Mallik 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. Men`s doubles (Final): Ansu Bhuyan-Santosh Mallik bt Ajay Nishank-Satirtha Patnaik 0-6, 6-1, 10-8. Women`s singles: Semifinals: Shilpi Swarupa Das bt Koyal Mishra 9-5; Rutuparna Choudhury bt K Bhargavi 9-4. Final: R Choudhury bt SS Das 6-3, 7-5.
