  Ananya annexes hat-trick of triple crowns

Bagging triple crowns seems to have become a habit for promising Khurda paddler Ananya Basak. Daughter of former National champions Arup Basak and Kanchan Dhawan, Ananya achieved a hat-trick of trebles by winning sub-junior, junior girls` and women`s titles in the 20th YMCA Inter-District & Odisha State Table Tennis Championship, which concluded here at Sachin Tendulkar Hall, Barabati Stadium today.

Ananya, who had claimed the previous two triple crowns during last two months at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, however, faced stiff fight in the women`s singles final against Samartha Prusty of Bhubaneswar before winning by 4-3 games.

Cuttack boy M Eswar Rao was another multiple title winner of the four-day championship, which was organised by Young Men`s Christian Association (YMCA), under the aegis of Odisha State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA). He emerged champion in sub-junior singles and junior doubles events.

 

Other title winners of the tournament included Tousif Haque, Sanchit Saha, Sahil Bhuyan, Mohit Behura, Sushree Pattnaik, Kishan Prusty, Arya Mohapatra, Bikash Singh, Debadutta Dwibedi and Bijan Das Mohapatra. Earlier in the team championship, AG Odisha men and Cuttack-A boys won the titles.  OSTTA president DP Bagchi, secretary Rabindra Parida, YMCA president Raj Ballav Mohanty and general secretary N Satyaratan handed over the trophies at the closing function.

Cadet boys doubles: Sahil Bhuyan-Mohit Behura bt Sanchit Saha-Abinash Tripathy 3-1 (13-11,11-8, 4-11, 11-4).
Cadet girls singles: Sushree Pattnaik (Krd) bt Sikriti Bhagat (Ctc) 3-1 (11-9, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9).
Sub-junior girls singles: Ananya Basak (Krd) bt Suryasmita Aparajita (Krd) 4-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-6, 11-9).
Sub-junior boys singles: M Eswar Rao (Ctc) bt Kishan Prusty (Bbs) 4-1 (11-4, 8-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-5).
Junior girls singles: Ananya Basak bt Ankita Senapati (Bbs) 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-6).
Junior boys singles: Kishan Prusty bt M Eswar Rao 4-2 (8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-6, 12-14, 11-6).
Junior boys doubles: Arya Mohapatra-M Eswar Rao bt Kishan Prusty-Sambhav 3-1 (11-6, 10-12, 12-10, 11-6).
Youth boys singles: Bikash Singh (RSP) bt Dishant Parida (Ctc) 4-1 (11-3, 11-5, 7-11, 11-4, 11-6).

Veteran 50+ singles: Bijan Das Mohapatra (Krd) bt Smruti Ranjan Das (Bbs) 3-1 (12-10, 11-7, 8-11, 13-7).
Men`s team: AG Odisha (Sagar Ghatge, Kallol Ganguly, D Debadutta Mohanty) beat East Coast Railway (Tousif Haque, Mohammed Azhar and Ayub Khan) 3-2.
Boys` team: Cuttack-A (B Raju, Eswar Rao, Arya Sankar Mohapatra) beat Rourkela Steel Plant (Janmejaya Moharana, Harish Bag) 3-1.
