  Rising Students win NMBSMM cricket tournament

Rising Students Club emerged champions in the N M Bhuyan-Sourav Mohanty Memorial Cricket Tournament, defeating Biswabharati Club in the all-Cuttack final by 36 runs at BJB College ground here today.

Nalco CMD Anshuman Das presented the winners’ trophy, which carried a cash prize of Rs 30,000. Odisha Cricket Association treasurer handed over the runners-up trophy and a cash prise of Rs 20,000. Host Mukteswar Cricket Club vice-presidents Gurjit Singh Chouhan, Naba Patnaik; secretary Prasant Mohapatra, joint-secretary Ajit Biswal, treasurer Goura Prasad Nanda were present on the occasion.

Rising Students allrounder Biplab Samantaray shone with both bat and ball to pocket the man of the match prize of Rs 5,000. Rashmi Ranjan Das of Biswabharati Club received Rs 10,000 as man of the tournament. Best batsman Deepak Behera and best bowler Aman Shastri took home Rs 5000 each, while best catcher Pravir Nayak received Rs 1,111.

 

Anurag Sarangi bagged the cricketer of the year award, which carried a cash prize of Rs 11,111. Ashutosh Das and Madhusmita Behera were given Rs 10,000 each as the junior cricketer of the year and woman cricketer of the year respectively. Md Jaffar Iqbal, who represented India in the Cricket World Cup for the Blinde was felicitated with a cash award of Rs 5,000.

Earlier, Central Excise Commissioner Sanjeev Gangadhar Dewalwar inaugurated the tournament in the presence of eminent cricketers Debasis Mohanty, Shiv Sundar Das and Rashmi Ranjan Parida.

February 13 (Match No 3): Saheed Sporting
