  Rising Students win NMBSMM cricket tournament

Rising Students Club emerged champions in the N M Bhuyan-Sourav Mohanty Memorial Cricket Tournament, defeating Biswabharati Club in the all-Cuttack final by 36 runs at BJB College ground here today.

Nalco CMD Anshuman Das presented the winners’ trophy, which carried a cash prize of Rs 30,000. Odisha Cricket Association treasurer handed over the runners-up trophy and a cash prise of Rs 20,000. Host Mukteswar Cricket Club vice-presidents Gurjit Singh Chouhan, Naba Patnaik; secretary Prasant Mohapatra, joint-secretary Ajit Biswal, treasurer Goura Prasad Nanda were present on the occasion.

Rising Students allrounder Biplab Samantaray shone with both bat and ball to pocket the man of the match prize of Rs 5,000. Rashmi Ranjan Das of Biswabharati Club received Rs 10,000 as man of the tournament. Best batsman Deepak Behera and best bowler Aman Shastri took home Rs 5000 each, while best catcher Pravir Nayak received Rs 1,111.
 

Anurag Sarangi bagged the cricketer of the year award, which carried a cash prize of Rs 11,111. Ashutosh Das and Madhusmita Behera were given Rs 10,000 each as the junior cricketer of the year and woman cricketer of the year respectively. Md Jaffar Iqbal, who represented India in the Cricket World Cup for the Blinde was felicitated with a cash award of Rs 5,000.

Earlier, Central Excise Commissioner Sanjeev Gangadhar Dewalwar inaugurated the tournament in the presence of eminent cricketers Debasis Mohanty, Shiv Sundar Das and Rashmi Ranjan Parida.

February 11 (Match No 1): Paramount Sporting 205/10 in 39.4 overs (Sourav Gouda 50, Debasis Samantaray 47, Abhaya Mallick 35; Aman Shastri 3/38, Sidhant Ray 2/39, Anurag Sarangi 2/48) lost to MCC 206/8 in 38.3 overs (Rakesh Mohapatra 42, Chandramani Biswal 31 n.o, Sunit Lenka 30, Soubhagya Mohanty 30) by 2 wkts. February 12 (Match No 2): Solar Club, Cuttack 241/8 in 40 overs (Rakesh Mohanty 69, Dibyajyoti Ratha 37, Prayas Thakur 35 n.o; Ashish Pradhan 3/36, Lallu Mohanty 3/58) beat Rameswar Sporting 121/7 in 23 overs (Alok Mangaraj 28 n.o, Deepak Majhi 28; Anand Sahoo 2/15, Manish rout 2/21) by run rate after rain stopped play. February 13 (Match No 3): Saheed Sporting 181/10 in 25 overs (Binnit Bunga 39, Partha Sarathi Nayak 24, Shree Hari 21, P Jayachandra 21; Narendra Dash 2/18, Prasant Rana 2/34) lost to Biswabharati Club 182/6 in 23.4 overs (Sanjib Sahoo 65 n.o, R R Das 36, Narendra Dash 32, Roshan Swain 31; Lalit Mohan Ojha 3/28, Abhilash Semwal 2/32) by 4 wkts. February 14 (Match No 4): Pragati Sporting 205/10 in 36.3 overs (Amlan Barik 73, Tukuna Sahu 51; Prasant Das 4/35, Anil Buda 4/42) beat Progressive Cricket Association 133/10 in 31.1 overs (Ansuman Gope 35, Pratik Yadav 26; Abhisekh Panda 3/13, Sumitosh Praharaj 2/27, Tukuna Sahu 2/36) by 72 runs. February 15 (Match No 5): Rising Students 247/10 in 39.5 overs (Subhranshu Samal 67, Deepak Behera 55, Santosh Sethi 36, Biplab Samantray 24; Sudatta Chandan 2/36, Niranjan Behera (Jr) 2/47, Sumitosh Praharaj 2/48) beat Pragati Sporting 96/10 in 29.1 overs (Dhiraj Singh 4/18, Jamela Bhanja 2/15) by 151 runs. February 16 (Match No 6): MCC 189/10 in 38.5 overs (Sidhant Ray 44, Mahavir Prasad 29, Sunit Lenka 25; Sidhant Jena 3/21, Niranjan Behera Sr 2/30) beat Scan Sporting 152/10 (Niranjan Behera 51, Suman Mishra 27; Rakesh Mohapatra 3/31, Aman Shastri 3/38, Pravir Nayak 2/40) by 37 runs. February 17 (Match No 7): RYCC 224/10 in 39.1 overs (Natraj Behera 100, Basudev Behera 23, Ranjit Mishra 21; Malaya Jena 4/51, Sanjay Khuntia 2/40) beat Solar Club 198/10 in 33 overs (Sai Jagdis 66, Rajesh Sethy 27, Priyatosh Parmanik 24; Ashish Tiwary 4/34, Lokaranjan Rout 2/30, Md Isaqulla 2/34) by 26 runs.
