  Delhi University conquer KiiT Premier League

Delhi University emerged champions in the 8th KIIT Premier League All-India Inter-University T-20 Cricket Tournament, defeating Al-Falah University (Faridabad) by 58 runs here at KIIT Stadium today. Ashish Sherawat of Delhi University hit a 57-ball 78 to pocket the the man of the match prize of Rs 6,000.

The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and the losing finalists Rs 1.5 lakh. Andhra University and KIIT University finished third and fourth to take cash prizes of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Winners league matches got Rs 10,000 each.

Azam Khan Al-Falah University was adjudged the man of the tournament and be became richer by Rs 8,000. Surendar Dahia (Al-Falah University), B Siddharth (Andhra University), Biswajeet Bhuyan (KIIT University) and Rohit Dubey (Delhi University) were given Rs 6,000 each as best batsman, best bowler, best wicket-keeper and best fielder of the tournament in the order.

 

Former India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla handed over the trophy in the presentation ceremony. KIIT founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, KIIT University Vice-Chancellor Prof P P Mathur and Registrar Dr Sasmita Samanta were present on the occasion.

Earlier, former India pace bowler Rudra Pratap Singh inaugurated the tournament, which features 12 universities from different places of the country.

February 14 (Match No 1): KIIT University
246/4 in 20 overs (Sanjay Mallick 63, Biswajit Bhuyan 58) beat Goutam Buddha University, Noida (158/7 in 20 overs) by 88 runs.
February 14 (Match No 2): Utkal University
178/9 in 20 overs (Pratik Dash 58) beat Jamia Milia Islamia University (123/10 in 19 overs) by 55 runs.
February 15 (Match No 3): Delhi Technological University, New Delhi (121/9 in 20 overs) lost to Goutam Buddha University (122/4 in 16.2 overs) by 6 wkts.
February 15 (Match No 4): Andhra University
(122/9 in 20 overs) beat Utkal University (103/10 in 18.3 overs) by 19 runs.
February 15 (Match No 5): Revenshaw University (86/10 in 19.3 overs) lost to Al-Falah University (90/4 in 9.3 overs) by 6 wkts.
February 16 (Match No 6): Andhra University
(152/10 in 19.1 overs) beat Jamia Milia University (147/9 in 20 overs) by 5 runs.
February 16 (Match No 7): Jain University
(191/5 in 20 overs) beat Revenshaw University (148/9 in 20 overs) by 43 runs.
February 17 (Match No 8): KIIT University (216/3 in 20 overs) beat Delhi Technological University (107/6 in 20 overs) by 109 runs.
February 17 (Match No 9): SRM University
(143/8 in 20 overs) lost to OUAT (144/8 in 19.5 overs) by 2 wickets.
February 17 (Match No 10): Alfalah University
(155/10 in 20 overs) beat Jain University (138/10 in 20 overs) by 17 runs.
February (Match No 11, SF): Delhi University (152/8 in 20 overs) beat Andhra University (115/10 in 19.1 overs) by 37 runs.
February (Match No 12, SF): Alfalah University
227/3 in 20 overs (Azam Khan 124 off 74 balls) beat KIIT University 199/10 in 19.1 overs (Abhilash Mallick 64 off 40 balls) by 29 runs.
February 19 (Final): Delhi University (183/5 in 20 overs) beat Al-Falah University (125/9 in 20 overs) by 58 runs.
