Pradhan took a career-best haul of five for 27 in the second innings after picking up a brace in the first essay. He wrapped up the opposition second innings, taking the last two wickets in space of five balls. Poddar, who scored a century each in the previous two matches, capped the memorable victory with a counter-attacking unbeaten 77 (77b, 13x4). Sarangi top-scored with 27 in the first innings and followed it with an unbeaten 29 in the second.
Put into bat on a pitch that proved to be a happy-hunting ground for pace bowlers, Assam were bundled out for 92. But the joy in the Odisha camp proved shortlived as they too suffered similar batting collaps and folded up for 88. With a career-best haul of seven wickets for 21 runs, pacer Krishna Das played instrumental role in Assam taking taking the slender four-run first-innings lead.
The visitors, of course, put up better performance in the second innings. Riding on an unbeaten 42 by Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad they mustered a total of 137. Chasing 142 for victory, Odisha were reduced to 31 for two before a 111-run partnership for the unfinished third wicket between Poddar and Sarangi enabled Odisha clinch victory with over a day to spare.
Odisha made three changes for this match, bringing in Abhilash Mallick, Alok Sahoo and Alok Mangaraj in places of Girija Rout, Deepak Behera and Jayanta Behera. Odisha will next meet Delhi at KIIT Stadium in Bhubaneswar from October 30 to November 2.
