  KISS outplay Sainik School to lift MCL Cup

Local tribal school Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) lifted the MCL Cup, outplaying six-time champions Sainik School 3-1 in the final of the 26th Bhubaneswar Inter-School Football Tournament here at Unit-VI Boys High School ground today. KISS completed a hat-trick in the process by winning the tournament for the third year on the trot.

Dillip Murmu scored the first two goals for the winners in the fifth and 15th minutes to bag the prize as man of the tournament. His teammate Sana Marandi capped the emphatic win, netting the third goal in the 44th minute. He pocketed the prize as man of the final match. Ashok Jena pulled one back for Sainik School in the 27th minute.

Arijit Mohanty (Vikash Residential School), Pritesh Pradhan (Sainik School), Sunil Murmu (KISS) and Santosh Behera (Sainik School) were adjudged the best goalkeeper, best defender, best mid-fielder and best forward in the order.
 

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) Director (Personnel) Purna Chandra Panigrahi handed over the trophy in the presence of host Unit-VI Athletic Association president Tapan Mohanty and secretary Dilip Das.

The tournament was earlier known as Kalinga Marine Bibekananda Memorial Inter-School Football Tournament. The 26th edition of the tournament, featuring 27 schools, was inaugurated by former minister Padmanav Behera August 18.

August 18 (Match No 1): Ramakrishna Sikhya Kendra, IRC Village (Abinash Mahanta 3rd, Baidyanath Murmu 17th, Debasis Kanhar 21st) beat Tapoban High School 3-0. Man of the match: Baidyanath Murmu.
August 20 (Match No 2): Venkateswar English Medium School (Santosh Behera 20th, Tiakyat Mohapatra 34th) beat Bibekananda Sikhya Kendra 2-0.
August 20 (Match No 3): Ramakrishna Mission School got walk-over against DAV School, Pokhariput, who failed to turn up.
August 21 (Match No 4): SAI International School (Deepankar Marandi 46th, Abhishek Mohapatra 49th) beat St Xavier High School, Khandagiri 2-0. MoM: Deepankar Marandi.
August 21 (Match No 5): Vikash Residential School (Sampad Patra 7th, 27th; Sudeep Kumar 15th) beat BJB English Medium School 3-0. MoM: Sampad Patra.
August 22 (Match No 6): KISS (Deepak Kumar Marada 16th, 20th and 43rd; Deepak Kumar Barada 18th, 33rd; Bhagabat Hansdah 28th) beat Rama Krishna Mission School 6-0.

August 25 (Match No 11): Kendriya Vidyalaya No 2 vs Unit-VI Government Boys High School. Match abandoned at the halfway stage due to thundershower with the former leading 1-0.
August 26 (Match No 12): DAV School, Unit-VIII (Partha Sarathi Padhi 5th) drew with Tapoban High School (Nabin Hembram 33rd) 1-1. MoM: Nabin Hembram.
August 26 (Match No 13): Mother`s Public School (Sarthak Sarangi 4th) drew with Sai International School (Abhishek Mohapatra 20th) 1-1. MoM: Jito Tension (MPS).
