Four players from Odisha bagged a total of 14 medals in the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Inter-Region Canoeing & Kayaking Championship, which was held at Jagatpur SAI Water Sports Centre in Cuttack from September 3 to 6.
Altogether 78 players from East, West, North and South regions vied for honours in the four-day meet. The Eastern squad has been composed with players from Jagatpur and Andaman & Nicobar centres.
Among the four Odisha competitors, who all belong to Jagatpur SAI Water Sports Centre, Jajit Kujur was most successful, pocketing eight medals, which included two silver and six bronze. He claimed the two silver in k-1 senior men 500m and k-1 senior 1000m. The six brone for him came in k-1 senior 1000m, k-4 junior 1000m, k-1 junior 500m, k-4 junior 500m, k-1 senior 200m, k-1 junior 200.
Sarojini Toppo captured two silver medals in k-1 senior woman 500m, k-1 senior 1000m and two bronze medals in c-2 senior 500m, c-2 junior 500m events. Ranjan Barik and Rajendra Nayak secured two bronze medals in c-2 senior men 1000m double scull and c-2 senior 500m events.
