Bhubaneswar-A emerge champs in Inter-Dist U-16 Tourney

Bhubaneswar-A lifted the Sumit Bose Trophy by emerging champions in the Inter-District Under-16 Cricket Tournament, which concluded at Bidanasi Ground here today. Bhubaneswar-A achieved the success by taking a 158-run first-innings lead against Cuttack-A in their three-day final match, which ended in a draw.
The tournament was organised by Odisha Cricket Association at different grounds here from January 10. OCA treasurer Satya Mohanty and joint-secretary Sanjib Kumar Dutta gave away the trophy and cash prizes at the closing ceremony. The champion team received Rs 10,000 and the runners-up side Rs 5,000.
Earlier in the semifinals, Cuttack-A trounced Sambalpur by an innings and 47 runs, while Bhubaneswar-A hammered Nayagarh by an innings and 81 runs. Semifinalists were identified after completion of 12 super league and 48 preliminary league matches.
Super league matches involved eight qualifiers (Bargarh, KIIT, Koraput, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Rourkela Sambalpur and Bhadrak) and last year semifinalists Cuttack-A, Bhubaneswar-A, Cuttack-B and Kendrapara. In the super league, Bhubaneswar-A, Cuttack-A, Nayagarh and Sambalpur registered one win apiece to qualify for semifinals.
