  Aparajita bags two medals in World Amateur Chess Championship

Odisha campaigner Aparajita Gochhikar bagged one silver and one bronze medal in below 2000 rating category of the World Amateur Chess Championship, which was held at Halkidiki in Greece from April 18 to 27. She got silver in women group and bronze in open section.

Puri lass Aparajita scored 6.5 out of a possible nine with five wins, three draws and one loss. She started with 57th rank and gained 85 points from this tournament, which featured a total of 64 players from different countries.

With her third-place finish in the open section, KIIT University student Aparajita became eligible for Candidate Master (CM) title. She also qualified to compete directly in the next World Amateur Chess Championship, which is going to be held at Italy next year. Khulan Enkhsaikhan of Mongolia became the champion in open category and also secured the Fide Master (FM) title. Ajith Mp of Tamilnadu, India won silver medal in the open category.
