  Bhubaneswar Hostel lift Inter-City Hockey Gold Cup

Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel-A and Barhadema won the professional and rural titles respectively in the 2nd Inter-City Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, which concluded at Panposh Sports Hostel in Rourkela today.

In the hard-fought professional final, Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel-A edged out SAIL Hockey Academy, Rourkela 6-5 via sudden death at Panposh Sports Hostel Hockey Ground in Rourkela today. Prasan Tirkey scored the match-winner, converting the penalty stroke in the sudden death, which was applied after play in regulation time and tie-breaker ended in 1-1 and 4-4 draw respectively.

 

Barhadema beat Rugditola in the rural final by 3-2 goals. Thopaberna finished third in the rural section, decimating Barpali 5-0. Professional champions Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel-A received the trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 25,555, while runner-up SAIL Hockey Academy took home Rs 21,111. Rural champions Barhadema became richer by Rs 15,555 and runner-up Rugditola pocketed Rs 11,111.

Sports and youth Services Minister Sudam Marndi gave away the prizes at the closing ceremony. Ragunathpali MLA Subrat Tarai, Rourkela Development Authority chairman Sarada Prasad Nayak and  Hockey Gangpur-Odisha secretary Debasish Gouda were present on the occasion.

Sundargarh Collector Bhupinder Singh Poonia inaugurated the tournament in the presence of hockey Olympian Lazrus Barla and organizing secretary Stanli Victor Minz were present on the occasion. As many as 44 rural and 12 professional teams are participating in the tournament, which was organised by International, national and veteran hockey players of Odisha from September 25..
