26 Sep 2016 BHUBANESWAR

Aspiring Odisha mountaineers Nrusingha Sahoo (30 yrs, bbsr) and Chinmoy Moharana (21 yrs, old town) achieved notable success in the adventure sport by successfully summiting Mt Stock Kangri at Leh on 24th September 2016 at 7.30 AM. It took the duo more than eight hours to cover 6,150 metres from base camp to reach the summit.

Trained and encouraged by Everest summiteer Ganesh Chandra Jena, Bhubaneswar-based Nrusingha (30 years) and Chinmoy (21 years) accomplished the feat as the last part of their Advance Mountaineering Course at Leh, Ladakh.

As per rules participants were required to summit a 6,000m mountain to complete the 28-day advance course. AASA secretaru Ganesh Jena, president Capt N C Sharma, advisor Ashok Mohanty and vice-president Sarojn Muduli congratulated Nrusingha and Chinmoy for their achievement.

Apart from Nrusingha and Chinmoy, three Bhubaneswar-based girl disciples of Jena also completed a 26-day Basic Mountaineering Course during the same period at Sonamarg, Srinagar. They were Nitu Bisoi, Smita Rani Behera and Sasmita Pradhan. All the five were sponsored by leading adventure club, AASA (Association of Adventure and Social Activities).

Each member of the Odisha squad had to spend an amount of Rs 7,000 to participate in the mountaineering course. This was only 25 per cent of the course fee and the rest 75 per cent was borne by Government of India. All the five are expected to return home on September 30.
