  KISS girls crowned U-17 Club National rugby champions

The formidable team of local tribal school, Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) captured the girls’ title in the All India Rugby 7s Under-17 Club National Championship, defeating Saraswatipu of Siliguri 12-7 in the final at Hi-tech Medical College Ground here today.

The boys’ title was grabbed by Jungle Crows, who prevailed over Future Hope in the all-Kolkata final match 17-7. Jharkhand girls and Saraswatipur boys finished third in respective categories. Earlier in the boys semifinals, Future Hope and Jungle Crow edged out Saraswatpur and KISS by 22 - 7 and 27-7 respectively. Similarly, in girls semifinals, KISS and Saraswatipur got the better of Jharkhand and Delhi Hurricanes 22-0 and 24-5 respectively.

 

Altogether 30 boys’ teams and 21 girls’ outfits from 15 states  participated in the three-day league-cum-knock-out  tournament, which was organised by Odisha Rugby Football Association (ORFA). As many as seven teams from Odisha, including four in boys’ section took part in the tournament.

Hi-tech Medical College chairman Tirupati Panigrahi handed over the trophies at the closing ceremony. CEO Dr Bisma Ratha, Sports, ORFA president Priyadarshi Mishra, secretary Upendra Kumar Mohanty and former State Assistant Sports Director Ashok Mohanty were present on the occasion.

beat Jaipur Bulls `B’45-0, beat Bihar 17-0, beat Kerala 12-5 (Cup PQF), beat Delhi Hurricanes 3-0 (Cup QF). Bhubaneswar Bulls drew with Karnataka 5-5, beat Delhi Hurricanes `A’ 10-0, lost to Maidan Hazards 5-10 (Cup PQF). Bhubaneswar Clubs beat All Dreams 10-0, lost to Delhi Rebels 0-5 (Cup PQF). Bhubaneswar RFC beat Uttar Pradesh 35-0, drew with Delhi Rebels 5-5, lost to Ace Foundation 0-5 (Cup PQF).

GIRLS: KISS beat Punjab 40-0, beat Bhubanswar Bulls 48-0, beat Delhi Rebels 24-0 (QF), beat Jharkhand 22-0 (SF), beat Saraswatipu 12-7 (Final). Bhubaneswar Bulls lost to Punjab 0-5. Bhubaneswar RFC beat Telangana 30-0, lost to Bihar 0-5, lost to Jungle Crows 0-5 (Cup PQF).
