  Satyabrata, Priyadarshini win MMA Natl medals

Satyabrata Behuria emerged as a new mixed martial art talent of Odisha by winning the title in men’s below 56kg category of the 3rd AIMMAA Amateur Mixed Martial Arts National Championship, which concluded at Utkal Karate School here today.

Twenty-two-year-old Satyabrata, who belongs to Siopara village in Kendrapara district and trains at Bangalore, beat Chhattisgarh opponents Sourav Daharia in the quarterfinals and Rajat Kapur in the final. But who did he beat in the semifinal is not known.

Odisha achieved another success as Priyadarshini Ghatuari securing silver medal after losing to Tanu Jha of Delhi in women’s below 56kg final. Delhi topped the medals table, while Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Odisha finished second, third and fourth respectively.

 

Organised by Utkal Karate School, the three-day championship featured competition in nine weight categories, including one for women. Bhubaneswar North MLA Priyadarshi Mishra inaugurated the championship in the presence of All India Mixed Martial Arts Association (AIMMAA) co-founder Alan Fenandes, working committee president Sharif Bapu and secretary Prasad Goitonde. Odisha Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera and Bhubaneswar Central MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty handed over the prizes in the closing function.

Mehbub Khan (Telangana) beat Yogendra Dhruv (Karnataka). Below 56kg: Satyabrata Behuria (Odisha) beat Rajat Kapur (Chhattisgarh). Below 61kg: Aziz Ahmed (Chhattisgarh) vs Mayank Joshi (Delhi). Below 66kg: Puskar Singh (Delhi) beat Yashas P (Karnataka). Below 70kg: Shiv Kumar (Delhi) beat Kalyan CP (Karnataka). Below 77kg: Rajiv (Karnataka) beat Moris Kumar (Chhattisgarh). Below 83kg: Pawan Kumar (Delhi) beat Pusparaj (Delhi). Above 93kg: Syed Yamin (Telangana) beat Aman Kumar (Delhi). Women: Taju Jha (Delhi) beat Priyadarshini Ghatuari (Odisha).
