Local duo Ansu Kumar Bhuyan and Rutuparna Choudhury lived upto their reputation as No 1 male and female tennis players of Odisha by maintaining their reign in the All Odisha Utkal Open Tournament, the fifth edition of which concluded here at Kalinga Stadium today.
Bhuyan achieved a hat-trick by winning the men’s singles title for the third time in a row, while Choudhury emerged women’s singles champion for the fourth successive time. However, Bhuyan’s bid to bag a hat-trick of double crowns proved in vain as he finished runners-up in men’s doubles with partner Sathirtha Patnaik.
The men’s doubles title was captured by seasoned campaigner Ajay Kumar Nishank and his young partner Kabir Hans. Local lass Sohini Mohanty and Rourkela lad Rabi Narayan Sahoo were crowned under-14 girls’ and boys’ champions respectively.
