Organised by Hockey Odisha, the week-long championship was conducted on natural turf despite the availability of widely-used synthetic turf at many places in the state. Featuring around 20 teams, the championship also caused another controversy as Sambalpur District Athletic Association was denied participation for `not paying membership fee’.
But the basis, on which entries were given to a couple of news teams, raised questions about decision making of the Hockey Odisha office-bearers, especially secretary Pratap Satpathy. There was a talk in hockey circle that peeved with the autocratic functioning of Hockey Odisha, some district units were getting united to for a parallel state body.
