  Youth Natl Athletics: Odisha bag 1 gold, 2 bronze

A nine-member Odisha squad, comprising of four boys and five girls, bagged a total of three medals in the 15th Youth National Athletics Championships, held at Manjalpur Sports Complex in Vadodara, Gujarat from July 21 to 23, 2018. The medals included one gold and two bronze.

Punga Soren of SAI Training Centre, Cuttack, won the gold medal in boys 110m hurdles with a timing of 14.28 seconds. Manisha Merel of Sundargarh captured the bronze in girls’ long jump with an effort of 5.38 metre. Manisha also took part in 100 metre sprint, but finished eighth and last with a timing of 12.89 seconds.

 

Jyoshna Sabar secured the other bronze medal in girls 400m hurdles event, clocking 1:05.82.
Among other Odisha athletes, Fulamani Karjee finished sixth in girls 400m run, clocking 1:00.19s.

Vinsen Samad failed to qualify for boys 110m hurdles final as he finished sixth in his hits, clocking 15.70s. Dillip Naik finished 3rd in boys 800m heats with a timing of 2:03.60 and failed to qualify for final.

Sukhi Baskey failed to qualify for girls 100m final as she finished fourth in her heats, clocking 13.08. Sukhi Baskey also disappointed in 200m sprint, finishing eighth and last in the final. Women Medley Relay team got sixth position. Rajen Ekka ended 16th in boys 200m steeplechase with a timing of 7:06.84. Tejaswini Kispotta finished 10th in girls 5000m race-walk, clocking 32:16.61. Bhabani Sankar Jena accompanied the squad as manager.
