  Western Asian Y&J Chess: Odisha bag 4 medals

Odisha players bagged a total of four medals in the Western Asian Youth & Junior Chess Championships, which was held at Hotel Trivoli Grand Resort in New Delhi from 6 to 10 September, 2019. The four medals included two gold and two silver.

Woman Fide Master (WFM) Saina Salonika won one gold in U-16 girls blitz format and one silver medal in standard format. She won all of her nine games in blitz to emerge chapion.

In standard format, Bhubaneswar lass Saina finished with 6.5 points from nine games. The two medals at the Western Asian Youth & Junior Championships took the total number of international medals of Saina to 17.

 

The other gold medal for Odisha was captured by Palak Mohapatra in U-10 girls standard format with 5.5 points from a possible nine. Comptition in U-10 open and girls category was conducted together due to insufficient entries by girls.

Cuttack girl Palak, however, finished 11th overall with five wins, one draw and three losses. The second silver medal for Odisha was pocketed by Yashita Rout in U-12 girls blitz format with seven points from nine rounds.
