Odisha gladiators bagged a total of 12 mefdals _ six gold, three silver and bronze _ to reign supreme in 12th National Wheelchair Fencing Championship in Chennai, which was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu from 26 to 28 July, 2019.
As many as six women and seven men represented Odisha Wheelchair Fencing Association in this championship. Odisha won three gold, one silver and one bronze in team events. In individual events, Odisha fencers pocketed three gold, two silver and two bronze.

Mens foil team, consisting of Rakhal Kumar Sethy, V Ramesh Rao, Akshaya Kumar Sahoo and Kamal Kanta Nayak won the gold, while the mens epee team, featuring Rakhal Kumar Sethy, V Ramesh Rao, Pravakar Behera and Prafulla Kumar Khandayatray also captured gold.
Odisha women team, involving Malati Panaure, Sheela Mantri, Pujaswini Nayak and Madhu Manjari Dhal secured the yellow metal in foil event. The state women sabre team, composed of Malati Panaure, Sheela Mantri, Pujaswini Nayak and Juli Sahoo got silver medal.
The women team settled for bronze in epee event with Malati Panaure, Sheela Mantri, Pujaswini Nayak and Laxmi Patra being the members of the team. In individual events, Malati Panaure was most successful Odisha women, winning one gold each in Category-A foil and sabre.
Among other Odisha women, Sheela Mantri grabbed one silver in Category-A foil and one bronze in Category-A sabre, while Pujaswini Nayak received one bronze in Category-A sabre. Among Odisha men, V Ramesh Rao one gold in Category-A foil, while Prafulla Khandayatray got one silver in Category-B foil.
