  Bureaucrats XI retain Tata Steel Friendship Cup

Bureaucrats XI retained the title in the Tata Steel Friendship Cup Football Tournament, defeating Tata Steel XI by a solitary goal in the final at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. S D Durga scored the all-important goal in the second half.

Earlier in the semifinals, Bureaucrats XI rode on a brace each by Baleant Singh and K Pradip to demolist Legislators XI 4-0, while Tata Steel XI edged out Media XI 5-4 in tie-breaker after play in the regulation time ended in 1-1 draw with Digza Prasad gaving Tata Steel XI lead in the first half and Bikash Marandi equalising for Media XI in the second half.

 

Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Padhi inaugurated the four-team tournament in the presence of Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera, ST-SC Development Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, Housing & Urban Development Minister Niranjan Pujari and.

Nayagarh MLA Arun Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra, KBK Chief Administrator S P Thakur, Business Standard Dillip Satapathy Resident Editor, The Statesman Bureau Chief K Ravi, MBC TV Editor Dilip Bisoi and Tata Steel SEZ Chairman Arun Misra distributed prizes in the closing ceremony.

INDIVIDUAL PRIZES: Man of the Match (1st SF): K Pradeep (Bureaucrats XI), Man of the Match (2nd SF): Rakesh Bharadwaj (Tata Steel XI), Man of the Match (Final): Digza Prasad (Tata Steel XI); Best Goalkeeper: Rajiv Seth (Tata Steel XI); Best Defender: Saswat Mishra (Bureaucrats XI); Best Forward: Bikash Marandi (Media XI); Fair Player Award: Arun Sahu (Leaders XI). Best Mid-fielder: Suresh Mohapatra (Bureaucrats XI); Highest Scorer: Balwant Singh (Bureaucrats XI).
