  Cricket for Blind: Bhadrak women emerge champs

Bhadrak won the 3rd State Level Cricket Tournament for Women with Visual Impairment, beating Balasore in the final by 8 wkts at Hi-Tech Medical College & Hospital Ground here today. With this win Bhadrak avenged the defeat they had suffered at the hands of Balasore in the league match yesterday.

Gayatri Mallick, Fulla Soren and Jhili Birua were declared Player of the Tournament in B1, B2 and B3 categories respectively. HI-Tech Medical College and Hospital Chairman Tirupati Panigrahi and District Social Security officer Ashok Kumar Patra graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

 

Panigrahi announced that he would adopt and sponsor the Odisha women cricket team for visually impaired. Similarly, Patra declaced that he would sponsor Odisha men cricket team for visually impaired for National tournaments.

The tournament, featuring five teams, was organised by Cricket Association for Visually Impaired (CAVI), Odisha. Blind OAS Officer Sannyashi Kumar Behera inaugurated the two-day tournament in the presence of CAVI Odisha president Mohammad Jafar Iqbal, Special Olympics coach Arpita Mohapatra and Special Olympics Bharat-Odisha Area Director Prakash K Rath.

RESULTS:

November 24 (Match 1):
Khurda 47 all out (Phula Soren hat-trick) lost to Balasore 48/0 in 3.1 overs (Phula Soren 20) by 10 wkts. PoM: Phula Soren.
November 24 (Match 2): Balasore 143/1 (Basanti Hansda 63) beat Puri 42 all out in 9.1 overs (9 run outs) by 101 runs. PoM: Basanti Hansda.
November 24 (Match 3): Puri 25 all out (?) lost to Khurda 26/0 (Buduni 11*) by 10 wkts.
November 24 (Match 4): Balasore 108/0 (Basanti Hansda 51) beat Bhadrak 91 all out (Jhilli Birua 51) by 17 runs. PoM: Basanti Hansda.
November 25 (Match 5): Bhadrak 111/1 in 10 overs (Jhili Birua scored 34*, Gayatri Mallick 42*) beat Cuttack 49/4 in 10 overs (Rachana 2 wkts) by 60 runs.
November 25 (Match 6, Final): Balasore 93/6 in 12 overs (?) lost to Bhadrak 96/2 in 7 overs (Jhili Birua scored 35*, Gayatri Mallick 26) by 8 wkts. PoM: Jhili Birua.
