  Hero U-17 Women Football: Lionesses emerge champs

Lionesses won the title in the Hero U-17 Women Football Championship, defeating Tigresses 7-2 in the final at Kalyani in West Bengal today. Lionesses striker Lynda Kom Serto was adjudged the Player of the Tournament and top scorer with six goals.

Earlier at the league state, Lionesses emerged table-toppers, garnering full nine points from three matches. Tigresses finished second with six points. Organised by Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL), the championship aimed at scouting the best talents for Indian team selection ahead of India’s participation and hosting of the FIFA U-17 Women World Cup 2020.
 

The 7-day tournament had four teams competing against each other. A total of 73 players, including four from Odisha, represented the four teams. Odisha players were: Manju Ganjhu (Lionesses), Jyoti Kumari, Manisha Naik (both Tigresses), Sangeeta Das (Panthers).

RESULTS:

Nov 11 (Match 1): Lionesses (Sudha Tirkey (17’-OG, Lynda Kom 35’, Priyanka Sujeesh Pottekat 73’) beat Panthers 3-0.
Nov 11 (Match 2): Tigresses (Amisha Baxla 3’, Karen Estrocio 6’) beat Cheetahs (Reet Kashyap 67’) 2-1.
Nov 13 (Match 3): Tigresses (Anju (14’, 27’; Nitu Lina 17’, Amisha Baxla 60’, Karen Estrocio 66’) beat Panthers (Shree Lakshmi 77’, Lalnunsiami 80’) 5-2.
Nov 13 (Match 4): Lionesses (Sumati Kumari 22’, Lynda Kom 27’, 79’; Shilky Devi 34’P, Priyangka Devi 71’, Sai Sankhe 88’) beat Cheetahs (Priyanka Kashyap 31’) 6-1.
Nov 15 (Match 5): Cheetahs (Drishti Pant 12’) drew with Panthers (Laxmi Mandavi 39’) 1-1.
Nov 15 (Match 6): Lionesses (Lynda Kom 15’, Astam Oraon 59’, Priyangka Devi Naroem 86’, Daisy Crasto 90+3’) beat Tigresses (Kritina Devi 73’-OG) 4-1.
Nov 17 (Match 7, Final): Lionesses (Lynda Kom Serto 17’, 50’; Priyanka Sujeesh 18’, Priyangka Devi Naroem 34’, Sumati Kumari 37’, 54’; Sai Sankhe 69’) beat Tigresses (Nisha 76’, Karen Estrocio 81’) 7-2.
