Punjab University, Chandigarh emerged overall champions with a total of 46 medals in the 1st Khelo India University Games, which concluded in Bhubaneswar today. The 46 medals of Punjab University included 17 gold, 19 silver and 10 bronze.
Savitribai Phule Pune University settled as first runners-up with 37 medals (17 gold, 11 silver, 9 bronze), while Punjabi University, Patiala finished second runners-up with 33 medals (13 gold, 6 silver, 14 bronze). As many as 113 universities won medals.
The closing ceremony, held at KIIT University, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Youth Affair and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, Indian Olympic Association President Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, Odisha Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera, Association of Indian Universities Secretary General Dr Pankaj Mittal, SAI Director General Sandip Pradhan, KIIT & KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta and Odisha Sports Secretary Vishal Dev.
