Cuttack boy Harshit Ranjan Sahu emerged champion in the 13th Sundeep Mohanty Memorial Open Chess Tournament, which was organised by Bhubaneswar Chess Association (BCA) at Sain Binapani Gyana Mandir, Tankapani Road, Bhubaneswar today.
Four players tied for the top spot with six points each from seven rounds. However, Harshit was declared champion for having better Butchholzl score. Top seed Fide Master Soumya Ranjan Mishra finished third after losing to Swapnil Priyadarshi, who secured the second position in the final rankings.
DCB Bank Bhubaneswar Branch Head Nalinikanta Mohanty handed over the prizes as the chief guest. BCA secretary Debasis Panigrahi, Sai Binapani Gyanamandir secretary Bhabani Sankar Mahapatra and headmistress Mamata Mahapatra were present on the occasion.
